Steiff Teddy Bear DC Superman, 29cm

Superman is a name known around the world. His iconic red cape, blue suit, and the unmistakable “S” on his chest make the hearts of comic fans young and old race with excitement. This 29 cm tall Superman Teddy bear brings an especially soft and cuddly version of the Super Hero to life. Dressed in an integrated costume complete with trousers, belt, boots, and cape, he proudly displays the S-Shield emblem embroidered on his chest. Though kryptonite is his one weakness, Superman’s impressive abilities, from flight and astonishing speed to superhuman strength and heightened senses, make him nearly unstoppable. Always brave and strong, he stands ready by our side to take on any villain.

The teddy bear soft toy was developed apparently simultaneously by toymakers Morris Michtom in the US and Richard Steiff in Germany in the early years of the 20th century, and named after President Theodore "T.R." Roosevelt, Jr. 

The president Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902 and this incident became the topic of a political cartoon by Clifford Berryman in The Washington Post. Morris Michtom saw the drawing of Roosevelt and was inspired to create a new toy. He created a little stuffed bear cub and put it in his shop window with a sign that read "Teddy's bear," after sending a bear to Roosevelt and receiving permission to use his name. The toys were an immediate success and since then the Teddy bears are among the most popular gifts for children and are often given to adults to signify love, congratulations or sympathy.
